Earth Day 2024: Planet vs. Plastics

In celebration of Earth Day 2024, we're proud to announce that ALL Firewire Surfboards & Slater Designs surfboards will ship plastic-free by January 1, 2025.

Plastics are a danger to humanity and all living creatures, disrupting the delicate balance of life on Earth. We challenge you to join us in rapidly phasing out all single use plastics, and invest in innovative technology and materials to work towards a plastic-free world.

From the materials we source and the techniques we use to manufacture, we have one simple goal here at Firewire Surfboards & Slater Designs: to ensure the best performing surfboards also leave the smallest environmental footprint possible. We are dedicated to elevating the surfing experience through innovative design, new materials and advanced construction methods.

We're proud to partner with A New Earth Project on our sustainable, plastic-free packaging solution making all Firewire Surfboards & Slater Designs surfboard shipments plastic-free by January 1, 2025.

Created by surfers, A New Earth Project came to be when a handful of professional surfers, brand managers, and packaging experts struck up a conversation about the plastic pollution crisis plaguing our oceans, lakes and rivers. Today, they're on a mission to transform the entire packaging industry.

INCREASE YOUR PERFORMANCE, MINIMIZE YOUR IMPACT.

We do everything we can to build the most sustainable surfboards in the world. From the inside out, our premium surfboards are very different from others on the rack. From our EPS cores, to the bio resin we use to laminate, to the sustainable alternatives we use like basalt or wood - we've gone to great lengths to source the newest, highest-caliber materials to build our products, without compromising sustainability nor performance.

BETTER FOR YOUR SURFING, BETTER FOR THE PLANET.

We're proud to partner with Bloom®️ on our sustainable traction pads made with algae. Bloom turns algae sourced from fresh water habitats at risk of toxic algal bloom into materials we can use to build our products, moving our offering towards a restorative and circular economy. Bloom's use of algae in foam and rubber captures carbon, reduces GHG emissions, and returns clean water to the environment - helping restore ecosystems. Bloom's processes and impact claims have been third-party validated and industry peer-reviewed. What does this mean? Products with Bloom are verifiably better for the environment.
